$BASECAT is a meme that represents the builder spirit of Base.

Long before it existed, the @baseapp account was already posting the blue hard-hat cat as a symbol of Base’s builder culture.

So, Basecat is simply giving a token to an already-existing cultural symbol of the Base ecosystem.

It wasn’t invented first and given a narrative afterwards; the meme was already there, already recognizable, and already aligned with what Base represents: the builders’ chain.

That makes $BASECAT feel less like a meme looking for a narrative and more like a token built around a piece of Base culture that was already there.

It has since been embraced across the ecosystem, including by prominent Base and Coinbase accounts, with Coinbase now placing it on its listing roadmap.

As long as Base continues to position itself as the builder’s chain, the builder cat will always be relevant.
