The Thesis
In April 2023 a token launched with no presale, no team, no roadmap, and a website calling it "completely useless" and unrelated to Matt Furie, who drew Pepe in his 2005 comic Boy's Club. It was just the frog, and within weeks it was worth over a billion dollars.
That is the case for $PEPE. Pepe has outlived every era of the internet, from 4chan to being hijacked as a hate symbol and slowly reclaimed, and the coin never claimed to be more than a tribute. It is the meme itself, owned by the people who post it.
Now the frog keeps showing up where memecoins were not supposed to reach. Canary Capital filed an amended S-1 for a spot PEPE ETF in October 2026, still pending. Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong posted a 4chan Pepe lifting a giant sword, captioned "one life, its worth an attempt." He never mentioned the token, so it is not an endorsement, but traders noticed.
Most memecoins borrow a meme for one cycle. $PEPE is the meme, and every new wave of internet culture brings people back to the frog.
