The Thesis

JR East hired two goats. Nagi and Pokke were rented to eat the weeds on an empty lot in front of Yotsuya Station, right in the middle of Tokyo's office district, and JR East's post about them pulled almost 6 million views. The Asahi Shimbun sent a reporter, TV picked it up, and the lot turned into a tourist spot where office workers stop on their way in.

That is what makes it relatable. Most of us are stuck behind a desk all day, and these two clock in, eat grass and ignore the trains rushing past. People in Japan are literally posting that the goats are what gets them through the stock market dip.

$ヤギ simply means goat in Japanese. JR East has nothing to do with the coin, it is a community takeover, and holders are visiting the goats every day and posting photos for everyone else.

The goats are only booked until December or until the grass runs out, so the real story has an end date, and the coin will have to live on through its community after that. But a simple, wholesome story that millions already saw is exactly the kind people keep coming back to.
